Purdys Shoe Store is a family owned business that was started in 1946 by Al Purdy. Al announced the opening of Purdys in the August 29th, 1946 Thief River Falls Times. His new business was opened on Saturday August 31st. In the mid sixties, Al’s son Bob took over the company and ran it until Cliff and Shirley Swanson bought it on May 1st, 1984.
Purdys was located on East Third Street until November of 1997. Cliff and Shirley decided to move it to 209 LaBree Avenue, where it is located still today. On January 1st, 2009 Cliff and Shirley’s son Trevor and his wife Monica took over and have been operating Purdys ever since.
