About Dakota, MN


The City of Dakota is located on the western bank of the Mississippi River in Southeastern Winona County.


Dakota is situated approximately 20 miles south of the City of Winona and approximately 10 miles north of the City of La Crosse, WI. According to the 2010 Census, the population is 323: 137 Households and 91 families.
Residents have access to hunting, fishing, boating, hiking and camping in the Great River Bluffs State Park and on the Mississippi River.
Interstate Highway I-90, a major East-West link across America for commerce and vacationing tourists, passes through the city.
The Mississippi River provides a major route for commercial barge traffic and recreational boating.
