Janesville, MN - Faith Lutheran Church

Janesville, MN

Faith Lutheran Church of Janesville, Minnesota began in October 1964 by Axel Johansen and Supt. Robert C. Christianson. Through their organization a group met with the officials of the synod and through the spiritual guidance of Rv. Gordon Narvesen, pastor of the North Waseca Church, the new organization was formed. This was the small and humble beginning of Faith Lutheran.

In the beginning, the congregation found available a room for their services in the Janesville Public School under the pastorate of Rev. Narvesen. At the first worship services February 21, 1965 – 57 were in attendance.

On November 17, 1965, the church council elected its first slate of officers to guide the spiritual and temporal affairs of the church under the leadership of the pastor.

In February 1966, the group purchased the Methodist church building in Janesville to serve as their permanent house of worship.

The first annual meeting was held on January 27, 1966. A new pastor Rev. Merle L. Metcalf came to serve the church in January 1966. During these first few months, the church experienced a tremendous growth not only in membership but in organizations and activity.

Sunday school was organized under the leadership of Mrs. Olof Lundquist, who served as the first superintendent. School was held at 9:30 a.m. prior to church services at 10:45 a.m.
