Sanborn, IA - First Reformed Church

Sanborn, IA

It all started in 1914 when a handful of dedicated souls – just 21 people – met for worship in the Sanborn area. They were made up of both families who had lived here for years and families who had just crossed an ocean to make a home in Sanborn. They had names like Bomgaars and DeGraaf; they worked as general store owners, farmers, and teachers. They met weekly for study and worship and prayer. And though the church has been added on to, the parsonage has moved, and the last names have changed, community is still at the heart of everything we do here at First Church.

At First Reformed Church we are deeply rooted in the Reformed Faith. As a Church body, we understand intimately that the world is not the way God intended it to be. In that light, our core beliefs are most succinctly and appropriately summed up in the words of the historic Apostle’s Creed. To read the Apostle’s Creed please click here.

We are also apart of a larger Church body: The Reformed Church in America. This association of churches is the oldest denomination in the country.
