Wykoff, MN - St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church & School

Wykoff, MN

St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran School is the educational arm of St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church. It is affiliated with the Minnesota South District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. The school (grades pre K-8) is, at all times, under the control and support of the local congregation. All final decisions as to policy and procedure lie in the hands of the voter’s assembly of the congregation.

The congregation elects a Board of Education and delegates to this body much of the authority for the day-to-day operation of the school. The Pastor and the faculty serve as advisory members to the board with the Pastor and the called principal being member’s ex-officio.

The appointing of contract teachers, the adoption of courses of study, the choosing of textbooks, and all major changes within the school are carried out only with the approval of the Board of Education and, if necessary, the voter’s assembly. The Principal of the school must act as executive director, who, with the help of the faculty, suggests changes and policies for the improvement and welfare of the school.

In September of 2007, St. Johns school began offering a Preschool program for 3- to 5-year-old children. The first year was a wonderful experience, and we look forward to growing this program. In September of 2015, St. Johns began all-day Kindergarten five days per week.

St. Johns Lutheran Church History
St. Johns Lutheran Church was organized in 1874. A parsonage was built that was also used as a church in 1875. In 1884 a church was built separate from the parsonage. The present church was built in 1899. German services were discontinued in 1953. A new parsonage was built in 1973. The church survived a tornado in 1977 that took the roof and steeple off. To this day, we are worshiping in this church and a member of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church.

What We Believe
With the universal Christian Church, The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod teaches and responds to the love of the Triune God: the Father, creator of all that exists; Jesus Christ, the Son, who became human to suffer and die for the sins of all human beings and to rise to life again in the ultimate victory over death and Satan; and the Holy Spirit, who creates faith through God’s Word and Sacraments. The three persons of the Trinity are coequal and coeternal, one God.

Being “Lutheran”
Our congregations accept and preach the Bible-based teachings of Martin Luther that inspired the reformation of the Christian Church in the 16th century. The teaching of Luther and the reformers can be summarized in three phases: Grace alone, Faith alone, Scripture alone.

St. Johns Lutheran Church Mission Statements
We are a welcoming family of brothers and sisters in Christ, equipping people for Christian service, growth, leadership, and sharing the healing Gospel of Jesus Christ in our homes, neighborhoods, and the world.

St. Johns Lutheran School’s mission is to help parents meet the spiritual, academic, and physical needs of their children by providing a Christ-centered learning environment which emphasizes personal Christian growth, academic excellence, and service to God and community.
