About Northrop, MN


NORTHROP, was named in honor of Cyrus Northrop, who was born in Ridgefield, Conn., September 30, 1834; was professor of rhetoric and English literature at Yale University, 1863-84; and was president of the University of Minnesota, 1884-1911. The city was incorporated as a village on July 6, 1933; the post office operated 1900-72, when it became a branch of Fairmont; it had a station of the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha Railroad.
