Perry has been designated one of Iowa’s “Great Places” and I invite you to learn more about our progressive community. From the “Bike Ride to Rippey” otherwise known as BRR ( or the Winter RAGBRAI Reunion) in February, the Friday Fests with live music and a mouth-watering variety of foods, our old fashioned 4th of July Celebration to our Latino Festival and the annual Lighted Christmas Parade in November, we have a rich tradition of events for our residents and visitors to enjoy.
The City of Perry has begun a multi-million dollar renovation of our downtown area, beginning at the area surrounding the historic Carnegie Library Museum. We have enhanced our downtown with a beautiful streetscape project, which includes a bocce ball court at the Josh Davis Plaza. Many of our buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
We have a strong commitment to offer many recreational activities to our residents and visitors. Caboose Park at 1st Street and Willis Avenue is the trail head of the in-town portion of the Raccoon River Valley Recreational Trail. Currently, the Perry to Dawson segment of the 33 mile “North Loop” of the trail is completed. In 2012, the Dallas Center to Perry portion will be completed, which will connect the loop to the current 56 miles of trails that pass through nine towns and four counties.
